5 Ways Healthy Eating Can Change Your Life

For the past year, I have adopted a plant-based and whole foods diet (This means I stay away from processed foods and eat mostly vegetables, fruit, legumes, whole grains, and occasional meat being salmon, eggs, turkey or chicken for now.) Update: I’m now fully vegan! Throughout my journey, I have learned that being a vegan or vegetarian does not guarantee that you are healthy because you can still eat a diet full of processed foods and not get nutrients you need. Let me say that the journey is not easy and I have my struggles daily.
I have gone months without Chick-Fil-A, still craving it every so often and I am surrounded by a loving family that loves to eat food such as pork ribs to pig feet.
The important thing to remember about the journey to a healthier you is that you must make up your mind every day about what you are going to put inside your body.
The second is, never judge others for the eating choices they make because you were once them! The last point is, people are going to judge you for changing your eating habits but you must get over it. We live in a society where people will never question you if you give your child chicken nuggets and candy, but as soon as you tell them your child doesn’t really eat candy or processed foods, they want to question you and think you are crazy or too good. It’s the world we live in and that’s why it’s important to be set apart and not follow the ways of the world. Now, I am going to get into the top 5 reasons why my family and I choose to eat healthy!
Prevent Disease
Cancer and Heart disease are the top killers in the black male community. I don’t want to lose my husband because he made bad eating choices which resulted in a chronic disease.
According to healthline.com, healthy habits help prevent certain health conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, and high blood pressure. If you take care of yourself, you can keep your cholesterol and blood pressure within a safe range. This keeps your blood flowing smoothly, decreasing your risk of cardiovascular diseases. I’m not saying that healthy eating is a safe haven to all disease, but it can prevent a lot.
More Energy + Will Power
I have never been a morning person, but now I love mornings! I have a great morning routine and I can really get a lot of stuff done before my family wakes up. As a mom and wife, if I don’t have a lot of energy, I can’t fully do my job or do what God has called me to do. Now, I’m not energized 24/7 but I have a lot more willpower + clarity than I did when I consumed a healthier diet. When you eat healthy, you won’t be dreading to get up in the morning and if you consume less meat, you can get away with about 6 hours of sleep!
Nourish My Temple + Supports My Spiritual Growth
This is a huge reason I have decided to eat healthier. I love my health journey because as I become healthier, my relationship with God grows. I have more self-control and I am more disciplined in certain areas of my life. I need to nourish my temple with foods that God put on this Earth for me to grow. Did you know that you can heal some diseases with food and plants God put on Earth for us that was created by him? The beloved Dr. Sebi cured patients that had HIV, Cancer, and other chronic diseases with an alkaline vegan plant-based diet.
Live Longer
Yes, we all die one day, but I want to live as long as I can to see my grandkids! When you consume a healthy diet, you have no idea the great foundation you are setting for your lifespan. I have seen women in their seventies that look great because they consumed a plant-based diet and exercised.
Boost Immunity
Would you believe me if I told you I haven’t taken over the counter medicine in over a year? It’s true! The last time I almost gave in is when I caught the flu, but I cured it naturally with Apple Cider Vinegar, honey, a warm bath, and rest! Lola, my husband, and I rarely get sick and when we do, we catch it early enough to where we can cure it unless we haven’t been eating the best. The key is to prevent all disease and sickness with a good diet and get lots of sunshine. A healthy diet won’t guarantee that you will never get sick, because life happens, but it can sure decrease chances of getting sick.
The journey to health is a marathon, not a sprint. You can’t meet your goals overnight so just take it one day at a time and NEVER diet, change your LIFESTYLE. If you are striving for progress daily and becoming a better you, that’s all that matters! If you made it to the end, thanks for reading!
